LA VILLA, Los Santos. -Con el arreglo de las máscaras y vestidos de las danzas la Asociación Rescate de Danzas Miguel Leguísamo de La Villa de Los Santos inicia la preparación del Corpus Christi, que se celebrara del 10 al 21 de Junio


 Pese a su potencial turístico, el salto El Zumbón, en río Quema, distrito de Tonosí, ha pasado desapercibido en una de las cuencas con excelente flujo hídrico en Azuero.

General Information - Los Santos

It positioned in the Peninsula of Azuero, towards the southwest. It limits at the north with Herrera and the Gulf of Parita, to the south and to the east with the Pacific Ocean and to the west with Veraguas. Its first city is Las Tablas.

This province along with Herrera is considered as the cradle of the traditions and the Panamanian folklore. This province has beautiful beaches, such as the Arenal, El Puerto in Guarare, Venao or Las Cañas, beautiful rivers like The Tabuara and River Oria. Tourist attractions such as: El Peñón de la Honda, Iguana Islan, and the Museum Belisario Porras.

Not less important to mention, the famous carnivals of Las Tablas. It is a region of hot climate but tempered during the nights by the fresh marine breezes. Los Santos is known by its festive and friendly people, with festivals that mix the Hispanic with the native influences, as the "festival of the Corpus Christi", that is celebrated generally during the month of June of every year, in the region of La Villa de Los Santos, next to the magnificent colonial church of San Atanasio. This is a charming population, with houses of walls of reed binding and ceiling of tiles, and a town of clearly Hispanic inheritance. If what you desire is to visit an archaeological place, we recommend you the Cerro Juan Diaz.

In the district of Guarare, a folk event well known takes place: "El Festival de la Mejorana". It is a parade of wagons with women on the top of it called “empolleradas” wearing the folkloric dress traveling through the main streets of the town. This festival coincides with the managements of Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes, celebrated on September 24, each year. During that festival several folksingers of tenths and folk dancers go to participate. The beaches of Bella Vista and El Puerto are famous. The balneary of El Salto del Pilon and Salto del Mero are the ideal places to be refreshed of the heat.

The first city of this province, Las Tablas, offers natural balnearies such as the river of Peña Blanca, Valle Rico and Oria, besides its concurred Carnivals. A center of ecotourism and adventures is the Cerro Canajagua. Its next-door populations constitute the craft center of the making of the pollera and its accessories. This art can be appreciated in Santo Domingo, San José, El Carate, La Tiza y El Cocal. If what you want is to admire the Panamanian national typical dress, you will not find another place or moment where the pollera and its jewels can be displayed with more elegance and grace, that in the Festival of The Pollera, contemporary to the Santa Librada Celebration.

The most important folk event of the district of Macaracas, is the recognized Auto de los Reyes Magos, which is celebrated during the first days of the month of January. It is a representation of an Eucaristic Play. This event is enlivened with popular festivals and regional foods. This festivity is accompanied with the celebration of the Folk Encounter of the Canajagua, where the traditions and customs racial customs are displayed. The district of Pedasí, offers beautiful beaches, like El Toro, Los Destiladores, El Arenal y Playa Venao ideal for aquatic sports.

The specialty of the district of Pocrí, is the making of precious and comfortable hammocks. The district of Tonosí is the most extensive one of the province and one of the most fertile regions of the country. In the beaches of Cambutal and la Marinera is the preferred place for turtles to nest in the months of September, October and November. You can observe the arrival of up to three thousand turtles in a night.



General Information - Veraguas

This province, unique in Panama, that enjoys coasts in both seas, it is located at four hours by car from the capital of the country.  It is the region of the Indian Guaymíes, just like Chiriquí.  Its population is mostly dedicated to the Agro business work, being this, one of the greatest production companies of grains of the country, its cattle raising is of the best in Panama, besides; it has also the main coffee growing and sugar zones.  Its main City is Santiago and is one of greatest cities of economic growth in the country." 

"It is the land of the immortal Urraca Indian, who fought against the Spanish domination. 

The popular expressions allow the towns to stand out its beliefs and customs; an evidence of it constitutes the cultural and social events where the spirit of sociability of the people is marked. 

Another representative aspect for a region is its tourist potential, therefore; this means a source of economic development. 

The Province of Veraguas is not unfamiliar to this, since it has coasts in both seas and a great number of places with tourist interest; many of them are not explored yet for being inaccessible and for the lack of economic resources.

Coiba Island

The Coiba Island is a beautiful place in Panama that you can not miss if you travel to this country. Many exotic animal species live in Coiba Island, and it is not possible to find them in any other place of the world.

Many years ago, the Coiba Island was a prison. Now it only imprisons an exuberant beauty.
